Today I decided that being a butterfly must be harder than it looks. First of all, it's hard to get from point A to point B, especially on a windy day. Butterflies are just kind of spastic. Secondly, it would be rough to be a bug that kids especially want to touch, in particular when that touch rips off hundreds of your tiny butterfly wing feather things. I remember being a little girl and grabbing a butterfly by the wings. I like the shiny residue it left on my hand, like my mom's eyeshadow. That is until my dad revealed to me that I was basically giving the butterfly a death sentence by damaging its wings.
Don't feel too bad for the butterfly, though. It's the only bug that can fly freely around your face while eating al fresco, and everyone smiles and is like, oh a butterfly! I think a butterfly could land on your plate and everyone would be like, oh it's good luck! But what you don't know is that the butterfly probably pooped on your salad, a la a fly. Butterflies, like beautiful women, get away with a lot.
